India Day 2: Exploring Fort Kochi and the Chinese fishing nets

Up to the roof terrace for breakfast at 8:40. It had started at 8:30 and we'll be there then tomorrow as not many tables left to sit at and no coffee until much later. Still, good continental breakfast and had an omelette.

Went for a walk to see the Chinese fishing nets which were cool. Got asked a few times if we wanted a tuktuk ferrari but once we said no a few times they left us alone. Generally the street vendors and tuktuk drivers didn't seem quite so pushy as in Northern India during our trip last year.

Fishing nets were quite amazing, had a nice walk in the very hot and humid weather before retracing our steps and trying the Ouissa Cafe near La Lune which was quiet, cool and tasty. Cheap too, had a masala chai, lime soda and a cheese/tomato sandwich for about 320 rupees.

After a siesta we headed out again to Aspinhall house which was part of the biennial arts festival that had already been going on for a month. Lots of modern art and not so much to my taste...could have done with some shorter descriptions of the artists and a clue as to what some of the pieces were trying to say. Still, the house was nice and alot of effort had gone into the artwork.

Hailed a tuktuk to take us to Jew Town for 100 rupees. Not very far, about 10 minute drive along a busy and narrow street though so we were glad we hadn't tried to walk it. Lots of nice shops in this suburb and a pedestrian only street leading to the synagogue. Apart from that though...it was just a touristy area really so after an hour we got another tuktuk back.

On our return after having to type into the drivers phone where we wanted to go (the English speaking tuktuk driver took our business and then told us to get into the back of another tuktuk where the driver didn't have a lot of the language - has happened before but not really a problem) we went back to the Ouissa cafe for refreshments (lovely big bit of cake) before heading back to the accom for a short rest. Having an accommodation so central in a small place meant we could easily go pop back when we felt hot and tired.

Finished the day having dinner at another recommended restaurant, Fusion Bay. Good veggie curry, a bit more expensive at nearly 1000 rupees. We had a dicky tummy overnight. Fine by morning though.
